Of Translation, Service Levels, and Consumer Labels

Only attorneys can provide legal opinions. Only selected professionals can provide medical services. On the other hand, almost anyone who speaks two languages can produce some kind of translation.* However, only professional translators can consistently produce high-grade translations. This bold claim clearly requires some support, especially in today’s society where most people are not even aware that there is such a thing as professional translators.

Our agenda at Tranquality is not hidden. We aim to promote professional translation as a demanding and creative intellectual activity, while at the same time acknowledging that non-professional translators and machine translation have a role to play in society.

Some of us believe that grades of translation can be a tool in the effort to promote awareness of the importance of professional translators.  But how will end-users deal with grades? Oh, they won’t.  We also want to introduce you to the concept of labels to protect the consumer of translations.

We invite you to start your journey of discovery with our next post, then stop at the Levels and Labels page.
